Is There a Lack of Advertising for JavaFX Capabilities? 0

Less than a year into its life, JavaFX is already being declared dead by some bloggers. However, numerous books and conference talks tell a different story. Max Katz, a Senior Systems Engineer at Exadel who works on the JavaFX Studio plugin for Eclipse, spoke with DZone in an exclusive interview about the Eclipse plugin and his thoughts on the status of JavaFX. He says JavaFX could use some more advertising, but it is far from dead.

Beautifying JavaFX Script From NetBeans Using AutoIt 0

NetBeans is the official IDE for JavaFX development. However, the latest v6.71 (or beta 6.8) of NetBeans is unable to beautify JavaFX Script (JfxScript) code as the “Format” option is not working (It just do nothing. See Bug acknowledgement).

Java desktop links of the week, November 30 0

Welcome to another week of Java desktop links of the week. This week we get to see a bunch of enterprise Swing applications built atop NetBeans RCP (which all, in my humble opinion, need a bit of a GUI spit, polish and shine). We also (finally!) see generics being integrated into Swing in the OpenJDK. JavaFX is also gaining momentum, with the GUI Builder tool being shown off, and preview releases of JFXtras and Xenon Data Grid being the highlights.

Did RIM BlackBerry kill JavaFX? 0

Did you hear that loud thud at this week’s BlackBerry Developer Conference, in San Francisco, CA? Listen closely… I did. That sound you hear may be the door closing on JavaFX, the Oracle, Sun and Sony-backed Java RIA platform. The question for JavaFX… does BlackBerry’s adoption of Flash for RIA in its platform spell the likely death nail in JavaFX?

The JavaFX How2 Compendium 0

I'd like to make sure that you know about a great new JavaFX resource that Sun's JavaFX Documentation Team has been working on.  This resource, located on the JavaFX.com site, is called the JavaFX How-To's (although I like to call it the JavaFX How2 Compendium because it is a concise, yet comprehensive compilation of how to get things done in JavaFX).

How-to-building-ui-ss

For example, if you want to build a UI in JavaFX, you can refer to the how-to instructions such as Use layouts, and Work with controls, referred to in the screen shot above.  Clicking on the Use layouts link takes you to an instructive guide, shown in the screen shot below, on how to layout a UI in JavaFX.

Enjoy the JavaFX How2 Compendium, and be sure to provide feedback so that the folks at Sun can continue to add how-to's that you want to see.

Regards, and enjoy!

Along the River 0

The subject of the next JFXstudio Challenge competition is a Holiday. What are you going to do on this holiday? How about having a trip along the river?

This script is developed to view panoramas. The image can be dragged with the mouse cursor, or you can use the cursor keys for navigation. Also the thumbnail can be used to select the most appropriate viewport.

Be patient! The application will start only when the image is loaded.
