Hanging out with JavaFX Geeks and Newbies 0

With JavaFX/Java now being shepherded by Oracle, I thought it appropriate to start an Oracle-Mix forum where the JavaFX community can help each other and give feedback to Oracle JavaFX teams. This forum is affectionately entitled JavaFX Geeks and Newbies, and its stated purposes are:
1. Build a community that encourages and supports developers as they climb the JavaFX learning curve.
2. Build momentum of IT industry adoption of JavaFX.

Several JavaFX book authors, Oracle JavaFX folks, and other JavaFX activists :-) hang out there, and I welcome your participation!  Please send me an email (jim.weaver [at] javafxpert.com) and I’ll reply with a membership invitation.

Thanks,

Should JavaFX be put down? 0

One of (several) things I’m cranky about on this blog is JavaFX. Last December I asked if anyone knew of honest-to-goodness production JavaFX apps in the wild; in particular, as I emphasized in a later post, I wanted to know about JavaFX ads that run within a browser windows, as do most apps written in Flash and Silverlight (the technologies against which JavaFX ostensibly competes).

Search optimization techniques for RIAs 0

“After Adobe Annoncment last year about the “New Serchability Option for SWF” we have today a new challenges from RIAs for search engines , let’s read the really great article from Damien Bianchi”

“A variety of technologies and platforms are used to create rich Internet applications (RIAs), including Ajax, Curl, JavaFX, Microsoft Silverlight, and the Adobe Flash Platform. It’s no secret that RIAs present challenges for search engines. Understanding the importance of this issue, Adobe has partnered with Google and Yahoo! to get to the heart of the issue and to come up with solutions that can not only work with the Adobe Flash Platform but also provide insight and fundamentals that can influence future technological advances.

Reducing Development Time by Running JavaFX Applications Using Class Files and JRebel 0

I always thought that there is ought to be better way to develop JavaFX application, with kind of similar and gratifying experience as developing Java Swing application. Traditionally in developing desktop application, one normally develop and test using class file to save time, and only uses JAR file for deployment (or if running in mobile emulator or device). However with the advent of RIA platform, the trend is to use a application container file (eg jar, swf) as default way of development since it facilitates seamless running in several modes without hassle (eg as Applet, webstart, and mobile device). Unfortunately, this is rather inefficient if one is developing desktop application, or experimenting with ideas. Unnecessary waiting time only disrupts the creativity and programming flow. Saving a few seconds for every run will accumulate into significant saving of time. Besides, it is rather counter-productive to use container file as the only mode of development if the technology can support alternative efficient way.

JavaFX links of the week, February 22 0

A lot of good links this week in the JavaFX-sphere. It’s interesting to read the fun that people are having with JavaFX, as well as the controversy of people who don’t quite get JavaFX and it’s relevance. Personally, I think people should…

QT Making a Run at Swing Developers 0

Looks like QT is trying to answer the uncertainty that JavaFX has created for Swing programmers. Specifically, JavaFX is out there and has been named the air apparent to swing. However, JavaFX does not have a full component suite yet (table…cmon guys).
